Why Life Coaching wasn't a decision, it was a calling....

Updated: Nov 7, 2020

Hi I'm Stephanie and I'm a life coach....

The journey here has been a long one, I'd like to share with you a piece of where it began....

Have you ever had a moment in your life where everything changed?

I can remember the day that I first had that feeling of passion and determination light up within me...

It was during a national Redken Artist Connection about 12 years ago:

For those of you new to WAVE Collaborative Coaching and my personal journey, I have been a practicing hairstylist since 2003, it was my first love and I still practice hair in a private salon suite part-time.

RAC, as it is also known, is a convention that is held once a year and is open to all Redken Artists from across Canada, on this occasion it was held in Toronto..

I've always enjoyed these weekends as they are everything I love all in one, connection with my friends and colleagues, salon industry innovations and, my absolute favourite, personal development!!!!

This particular training was one of the most pivotal moments in my life up to that point!

I had been in a relationship for over seven years that had become emotionally abusive and extremely toxic. I had known for a long time that I should leave, financial obligations, our shared fur babies and the subtle threats of suicide, hung over me until, one weekend, the pain of staying was worse than the fear of leaving.

When I landed in Toronto that weekend, I felt a shift. There was a determination, a strength that I had never known was in me. It all galvanized into the firm and final decision to begin a new life as soon as my feet hit Newfoundland soil.

And the exact moment that it cemented was on the last day of training when we had guest facilitator Johnny Stellato (@johnnyjustbe), an inspirational speaker, life coach and Redken Mentor. He presented something that spoke to my soul...

It was an analogy about the importance of who we surround ourselves with. He had us imagine a bullseye. We imagined ourselves being the centre circle and, he explained, that the rings that radiate out are where the people that we surround ourselves with reside. The more time we spend with each person, the closer they are to that center circle, and therefore, the most influential to where we are headed and to how we feel.

Drew Houston, CEO of Dropbox, said "You become the average of the five people you hang out with".

Damn, if all this is true, I realized, I'm destined for disaster!

This is the exact message I needed to confirm within myself that I had to do a complete life overhaul.

I held firm and the moment that I landed in Newfoundland, I left my partner and everything I owned (except for my clothes and my Wii console 😂) and I moved back in with my parents at the age of 26.

If you've ever changed your life in a day, you know how hard it is. Not at that exact moment, then it's all momentum and energy from progress, it's when you have a chance to settle and reflect that sh*t gets real.

The decision to stay away was one I had to make again and again, day after day for months.

What kept me going was the bullseye. I wanted a life without limitations, I wanted room to grow and to be the best version of myself that I possibly could be. It's only by guarding that precious "circle", that it began to happen and It's the path that I travel to this day.

My journey is not one that I take alone, I took that analogy to heart and, through some deep dive realizations, I now have an incredible support network that I give thanks to everyday and I let them know what they mean to me at every opportunity (you know who you are 😘).

My passion and purpose in life is to share my journey and all of my discoveries so that anyone I have the honour to spend time with, discovers the value of their own 'bullseye'.

That weekend, that analogy and the unshakeable belief that I deserve more from life, are a big part of why I started this new chapter in my life.

I know I was put on this earth to share my journey and the messages I receive to help as many people, myself included, to be the best versions of themselves that they can be.

If you got this far, thank you, I hope it sparks something inside of you too.

We are a part of the same tribe and you are always welcome here 💕

with love,

Stephanie
